Moving can be an exciting and stressful time. Don’t add to your stress by forgetting to follow the proper packing tips, which could result in lost, damaged, or misplaced items. While moving companies are your allies during your move, it is your responsibility to properly pack your items in order to make the move successful and efficient. Alternatively, your mover can do the packing for you! Remember to consult the following proper packing tips as you prepare to move:
1. Make sure you have all of the supplies: While it might be obvious that you need boxes and tape to pack your things, there are several suppliespeople forget about. If you are moving, make sure you have plenty of boxes, a pen to label your boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, tape, scissors, and a tape measure. If you have all of these supplies, packing will be much easier.
2. Use Strong Boxes: Not all boxes are made equal. Make sure the boxes and containers you are using are strong, can close completely and won’t fall apart when the movers pick them up. It might also be a good idea to double-box fragile items.
3. Label Every Box: Once you have filled a box and taped it up, label the box. Write which room the box should go in, along with other pertinent information for both you and the movers. Don’t forget to mark any boxes that may contain fragile items. Label boxes on the side, not the top of the box.
4. 50 Pounds or Less: Be careful not to fill your boxes with too much. Boxes over 50 pounds will be difficult for moving companies and you as you move your stuff around your new home. Good rule of thumb – heaviest items in the smallest boxes. Books should be packed in small boxes.
